The new Peugeot 207 CC, inside out
The Peugeot 207 CC is quiet, sporty and very very attractive. Here’s what to expect of this newcomer.
The design is sporty enough for the men but sexy enough for the ladies, making this heterosexual coupe-cabriolet very appealing. The two-piece roof is elegantly shaped and folds in neatly when shut. Without manual latching or unlatching, the roof disappears into the boot in approximately 25 seconds, leaving reasonable luggage space.
When the roof is closed it seals very well so wind noise is minimal. With similar interior design to the 207 hatchbacks, the overall impression is comfort, luxury, and power. The stiff structure prevents shaking and the driver feels at ease when on slightly difficult road conditions.
Compared to the 206 CC, the newcomer offers a steadier structure and is likely to follow the footsteps of the 206 CC of being the best selling convertible in the UK.
Being the first Peugeot to use a 90kW engine with variable valve timing, this powerful engine can reach 100km/h in 8.6 seconds and a top speed of 206km/h. The other two engines available are the 150phb and the Hdi 110 diesel. The latter will unfortunately not be available in South Africa.
The Hdi diesel is more economical but a little more expensive than the THP 150. The two petrol engines are joint developments with BMW, so no guessing of whether it will drive well. The THP 150 has a 245Nm on tap at just 1400rpm, which matches the torque of the 82kW turbodiesel, which doesn’t achieve this pulling power until 1750rpm.
So, the Peugeot 207 CC’s coming to South Africa in July/August this year is with great anticipation, because at last we can drive something that’s both sporty and powerful. Almost like a Lotus, just a bit more affordable.
