RunX will become Auris

The Toyota RunX will be replaced by the Toyota Auris, which will be released in South Africa later this year.

Although the new four-door Corolla will keep its name, the hatchback will be named Toyota Auris, which will be imported.  This new named car will be available in three and five-door models and is about 0.5m longer than the RunX.

A fascia-mounted gear lever and a bridged centre console are a few of the new features of the “new RunX”.  Although we don’t know which engines will be available in SA yet, the European market has the choice between three diesel (1.4, 2.0, and 2.2-litre) engines and two petrol (1.4 and 1.6-litre) engines.

The new 1.6-litre petrol engine has variable timing and produces a claimed 90kW, while the two-litre turbodiesel produces a claimed 92kW.  The 2.2-litre diesel has a claimed output of 130kW and 400Nm, and can reach a top speed of 209km/h.

Transmissions include five and six-speed manual gearboxes with the option of a semi-automatic transmission with manual sequential shift.  Can’t wait till this one hits the South African showrooms.
