Renault’s Clio Renaultsport: Bring It On
Renault South Africa has launched its two-litre Renaultsport version of its Clio and this is one hell of a car.
It is the most powerful hatch in its market segment and is claimed to reach 100km/h in 6.9 seconds. Its top speed is 215km/h and its torque output is 215Nm at 5550rpm.
The track and wheelbase is wider and longer than the original Clio, offering better handling. Rear-end lift at high speed is reduced by a rear diffuser that channels the slipstream to create a suction effect.
The looks have changed from a sleek city car to a meaner power machine with bigger bumpers, skirts and larger air intakes. Suspension upgrades include a new double-axis strut system up front. The rear uses a torsion beam axle that is strengthened and stiffened along with a thicker anti-roll bar.
Aluminium pedals and perforated-leather steering wheel with red centre-point stitching gives the interior a smart but sporty finish.
Traction control comes standard on the Renaultsport but can be switched off to improve launch. Options include Recaro sports seats, white RS Cup wheels and a power sunroof. The Clio Renaultsport comes with a three-year or 100 000km warranty and five-year or 60 000km maintenance plan and will sell for R209 995.
