Renault to launch funky new Scénic

At the 2007 Geneva Auto Show, Renault is showing its new Scénic Conquest, which will be released in South Africa late this year or early next year.

Without the all-wheel drive, the new Conquest is said to be a new generation of the RX-4 version offered with the previous Scénic and will be inheriting some practicality traits from the MPV and some styling traits from the SUV.  Because it comes without the all-wheel drive, it is not designed to be an off-roader.  According to Renault, a brand new off-roader will be seen in 2008 but unfortunately we don’t know if it will be seen in South Africa.

With a protective black coating, the lower parts of the front and rear bumpers fit in perfectly with the revised grille and air intake and the headlight covers are blacked out, creating a totally new look for Renault.  It runs on 16”alloy rims and hints of orange gives life to this new generation Scénic.

The new Scénic is fitted with a running gear that has 20mm more ground clearance, making it easier to cope and improves stability, on less desired road conditions.  Anti-roll bar, satin-chrome skid plates and longer-travel suspension makes this new follower quite unique to its leaders.

Extra-cost options include an interior bike rack, extra storage units, boot and door sill guards and a compartmentalised boot box, while rear parking proximity sensors and an electronic stability programme comes standard.  South Africa will have to wait and see which engine will be launched in SA, the choice being between a two-litre petrol engine or a 1.9dCi turbodiesel. In either case a six-speed manual gearbox will be standard.

We can’t wait for the funky new Renault to hit the streets of SA.
