Petrol Price rises – again

From Wednesday 7 March, consumers will have to cough up R5-99/l in Gauteng and R5-75/l in the Coastal area.

The rise in petrol price comes as no surprise to consumers.  For months the petrol price only decreased, everyone waiting for the big shock when the time is right for the price to go up again.

And now the time is right.

Consumers will pay 24 cents a litre more to fill up their cars with 95 octane unleaded petrol while illuminating paraffin has increased by 13 cents a litre and the wholesale price of diesel 0.05% sulphur has increased by 10 cents a litre and that of 0.005% sulphur has rised by 8 cents a litre.

According to The Minister of Minerals and Energy, the fact that an increase of 1.1 cents per litre from 46.9 cents per litre to 48 cents per litre in the retail margin on all grade of petrol, has been approved, will not have an increasing affect on fuel prices.  This approval is due to the implementation of a Petroleum Pipelines levy of 0.19 cents per litre. Currently the Slate levy of five cents per litre will be decreased by 0.19 cents per litre to 4.81 cents per litre.
