New Dodge arriving in SA soon
The new Dodge Nitro SUV will arrive in South Africa within the next few months and two models will be available in our showrooms - the SXT diesel and sports-orientated R/T.
The Nitro comes as a six-speed manual or five-speed auto with the 2.8-litre turbodiesel. A four-speed auto is the only cogset available for the 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine.
The looks might be a bit deceiving, because even though it looks like a tough 4X4, it really is just a giant SUV designed for slippery tracks, dirt roads and bad weather and a simple rotary switch locks the axles into a 50:50 split for those slippery conditions.
The four-cylinder, 2.8-litre turbodiesel reaches a claimed 130kW at 3800rpm and a torque of 460Nm from 2000rpm and is very powerful compared to vehicles in the same class. In general driving, fuel consumption is round about 8.6 litres/100km
The 3.7-litre, SOHC V6 petrol engine has two valves per cylinder and generates 151kW at 5200rpm and 314Nm at 4000rpm. The engine has been refined to enhance low-rev torque while minimizing engine noise. The new exhaust gas recirculation valve also helps fuel economy.
Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes with emergency pressure assistance, traction control, rollover resistance and stability control. Front and side crash bags and tyre pressure monitors are also fitted to add to the safety of the vehicle.
The inside is spacious and very practical with lots of leg room and leather finishes. The boot can take up to 369 litres and when the seats are folded, it reaches a maximum of 1994 litres. The fabric used for the seats is dirt repellent but also kills germs – now that’s impressive.
What’s even more impressive is the amazing sound system – with a touch-screen and features for music, sound, movies and personalised picture displays, you will find reasons to drive all day!
Prices are above the R300 000 mark.
