Honda S2000 – powerful and very, very sexy
The Honda S2000 is all about power and to coincide with its 50th anniversary, the company launched its latest iteration of the lightweight S roadster range. The S2000 offers its drivers complete driving pleasure and is definitely priced well considering the driving dynamics it brings to the table.
This range dates back to the 1960s and was available in numerous permutations ranging from the S350 to the S800. The two features that the S2000 inherited from the older models are firstly the ability of the engines to spin at relatively high revs, and secondly, Honda’s heritage of avoiding the turbo route for gaining extra power.
The Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) prevents over steering and the well-known Honda VTEC engine offers superior technology.
Only minor body changes have been implemented to keep it in line with new roadsters entering the market. Its roof goes up or down in seconds and two big bore tailpipes adds to the power factor.
The Honda S2000 comes with a 16-valve DOHC VTEC engine that reaches 177kW at 8300r/min and kicks out 208Nm of torque at 7500r/min. It is equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC). It is claimed to go from 0 – 100km/h in 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 240km/h.
Standard features include a starter button, power windows, power-adjustable wing mirrors, keyless entry, integrated radio/single CD player with four speakers and remote sound system controls. It also comes with air-conditioning, leather and alloy gear knob, leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual front airbags, ABS brakes and heat-blocking tinted glass.
The Honda S2000 comes with a three-year/100 000km warranty plan and costs R365 000. The S2000 is any Honda fan’s greatest fantasy that became a reality.
