Honda Civic Type-R – ready for serious action
The Honda Civic Type-R is a performance hatch with a different style. A style not to everyone’s taste, but unique nonetheless.
A set of seven-spoke alloys fill the wheel arches and an enlarged bumper mounted intake flanked by triangular fog lamps gasps for air up front. The looks are athletic and the honeycomb mesh grille fits perfectly.
A huge rev counter stares at the driver and the steering wheel and seats are unbelievably comfortable. The aluminium gear knob looks racer-like and once inside, you tend to forget about its rather strange looks.
The 2.0-litre I-VTEC engine delivers 147 kW at 7400 rpm and 196 Nm of torque is delivered at 5900rpm. At the lower end, this VTEC engine has little in the way of power and torque.
The Type-R offers tremendous amounts of grip and the steering is accurate and communicative so you never feel detached from the road – even at high speeds. The brakes are impressive and the gearshift is smooth and satisfying.
Overall the Honda Civic Type-R offers a unique driving experience and if you’re willing to live with its rather weird looks, this is the perfect power toy for you.
