Corolla Verso gets a fresh look

The new Toyota Corolla Verso will be available in South Africa towards the end of the year and promises to make you take another look.  And another.

The car’s length is increased by 10mm with a new mesh-style upper grille and revised front bumper.  There are four trim levels to choose from – Terra, Luna, Sol and Premium Active – identified by specific wheel trims, or new alloy rims in the case of the Luna and Sol, but it is not known how much of a choice South Africans will have in this area.

Re-shaped halogen headlights and front indicators are also some of the new features.  The rear indicators are now rectangular and the rear number-plate holder has been chromed and widened to add to a sense of width.

The fascia now has metallic-finished accents and a different fabric is used for each trim, while the rear surfaces of the second and third rows are covered in carpet fabric.

The upgraded audio system will be MP3 and WMA files compatible and has Bluetooth connectivity.

Safety is also upgraded, with nine crashbags available, including a driver’s knee bag; whiplash-injury reducing seats and IsoFix child seat mounting points.  Anti-lock brakes with electronic brake pressure distribution, brake assist, traction control and vehicle stability control come standard.

South Africa will see the first new Toyota Corolla Verso at the end of the year and will be able to choose between the 1.6 and 1.8-litre petrol engine that comes with a five-speed manual gearbox.
