BMW to launch F3

There has been a rumour about BMW launching a 3 Series-based “CUV” and according to Autoweek, the new BMW F3 has been approved and will be available in the next decade.

The decision to produce a versatile compact executive has been coming on since 2004 and Reithofer had recently given the green light to go ahead with production.  The price will be of the highest, but the Mercedes-Benz B-Class has proved very popular in Germany, and BMW believes that they will achieve the same success with the new family-friendly five seater.

BMW says the F3 will be a combination of the high seating position of an SUV with the space provided by a traditional wagon.  Their goal is to offer a “CUV” with the best possible dynamics.  Apart from the fact that it will have the new X5’s FlexRay high-speed data transmission system and will most probably be rear-wheel driven, other details are still to be decided on.  It will probably be available in petrol and diesel.

Unfortunately, we will still have to wait quite a while for the new F3, as it is at least another three years away from launching.
