BMW M3 – will it match our expectations?

BMW has always been known for its luxurious, smooth vehicles, the BMW X5 being the first ‘tougher’, although still upmarket, 4x4.

The next BMW M3 wants to develop a more “road-bully” kind of car, which is sure to attract a lot of attention at the Geneva Auto Show this year.

The front design is intended to convey a high-performance sports car with the front apron and bonnet carrying large air intakes and a power dome.  Integrated indicators in chromed brackets are some of the new features of the M3. While the new M3 still has typical features of the 3 Series Coupe, BMW says that almost every body panel has been re-engineered around “an M3-typical” V8 engine. The taillights, doors and boot lids are some of the components inherited from the current Coupe, while the currently left-sided double tailpipes have been shifted towards the centre of the car.

To reduce rear-axle lift at high speed, a discreet spoiler lip on the boot lip has been added.  The rear design focuses on the car’s wide track and the M3 is said to be an individual and athletic vehicle.  The M3’s roof is plastic and strengthened with carbon fibre and covered with a single layer of clear finish.

The message BMW wants to send out with this new M3 is that even though it is a high-performance sports car, it can be used for everyday driving.

With competitors matching and eclipsing BMW’s vehicles in recent years, let’s hope this one lives up to our expectations.
