Audi TT – Can it Get Any Better Than This?

The new Audi TT has strong similarities to its predecessor, which is a good thing because the previous Audi still grabs lots of attention.

The new TT is more masculine and the low roof and stylish design makes it look even better than the older models.  The previous Coupé was very firm and it suffered from premature understeer on the limit.  These issues have been resolved in the new model.

85 percent of the torque is directed to the front wheels but 100 percent can be directed to either axle.  It is a powerful sports car and can reach 100km/h in 5.7 seconds, which is enough to make you believe you are a racing car superstar.  In the hands of an Audi tester, it knocked off 15 seconds off its predecessor’s time around the North Loop of the Nuerburgring.

The TT is a driver-friendly car with no hidden surprises.  It can be driven 50km at up to 80km/h on a punctured tyre – which will hopefully allow you to get to the nearest petrol station to have the tyre changed.

Optional magnetic suspension is an extra-cost feature for R13 160 but allows the shocks to be stiffened at the press of a button. With the extensive use of aluminium it its body, this Coupé is 80kg lighter than the previous model.

Through its twin exhausts, theV6 engine makes exactly the right noises and provides quicker throttle response.

In comparison to cars in the same category, including BMW’s Z4, Chrysler Crossfire and Nissan’s 350Z that has no rear seats, the TT’s small rear seat is a bonus.  Standard luxuries include power seats and radio/CD but the satellite navigation will cost you extra.

Prices range between R440 000 and R453 000 and we believe that the new TT justifies even these prices.
