The Subaru Forester 2.5 XT Prodrive is a playful family wagon, but don’t underestimate its power.
With a 185 kW engine and 18-inch wheels, this is one of those cars where you actually have to keep your eye on the speedo, as it goes from 0 – 100km/h a lot quicker than it feels. It’s got a lot of grip and you never feel out of control when pushing the accelerator a little harder than usual. It’s a good thing the brakes are really effective.
The looks are very deceiving, you might think this is your ordinary family vehicle, but in reality it is a very powerful machine. It can do the family rounds in town – quicker than usual – and it can take you though mountain passes and up hills and rocky paths in the countryside just as easily. A slight prod of the accelerator in first gear sends the revs soaring and has the car surging forward – a sign of the enormous amount of power hidden in the nose of this family vehicle.
The looks are playful to match its performance, but nothing too fancy or unusual. The addition of some extra spoilers and that gaping mesh grille add a little spunk but there is nothing out of the ordinary. The inside is plain and practical and it offers enough space for the whole family. It is priced at R359 000 and is the perfect package when looking for performance, practicality and a “normal” appearance.
